Our October meeting was huge with a record number of attendees and five new faces. Our last meeting was one the eve of the current lockdown and it was lovely to see everyone again.
Anna and Allison from Peter Mac’s Consumer Engagement team joined the group to speak about consumer engagement at Peter Mac. Over the past number of years there has been a real drive to increase the patient and carer voice within new initiatives and research. This has opened up fantastic opportunities for patients and carers to be meaningfully involved in decision making about health policy and planning, care and treatment, research and the wellbeing of themselves and the community.
Currently Peter Mac has a group of 180 people, most of whom have experience of cancer (either as a patient, carer, or family member) involved in consumer engagement activities across Peter Mac. If you would like to get involved please email Anna on Anna.Jones@petermac.org or call 03 8559 6759.
For the rest of the meeting, the group introduced themselves and shared their experiences with head and Neck Cancer. The conversation focused on staying positive, getting back to the ‘new normal.’ And most importantly getting a taste of freedom as we prepare for easing of the COVID restrictions.
