Yesterday the group met for the first time online! After cancelling our April meeting due to COVID-19 restrictions, it was lovely to see familiar faces and connect online. Our guest speaker today was Jordan, the Head & Neck Social Worker from Peter Mac. He shared an overview of his role, including the aim to support people in a meaningful way. He also spoke about the impact COVID-19 has had on Head & Neck Cancer patients, ranging from longer wait times to receive supports, less face-to-face visits to hospitals and distress resulting from treatment changes. A key message was to continue to connect with family and friends during these difficult times, and to look after yourself.

The group then met privately to introduce ourselves and share our experiences. We shared positive and challenging aspects over the past few months of being in isolation. Some positive aspects have included extra time spent with family at home, and not needing to rush between day-to-day activities. Some challenging aspects have included being away from family and friends, and using other ways to keep in touch.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday 12th August where we are delighted to be joined by Darcy, a Dietitian from Peter Mac. Please email us or register your interest to join an online session!
