Holding our heads up high!

Just like that our 2022 meetings have come to an end. And there is no better way to finish the year than by being joined by Head and Neck Cancer Australia CEO Nadia Rosin. Nadia spoke to the group about the role of Head and Neck Cancer Australian, the support they provide, including the key initiatives they are undertaking to improve the lives of people affects by head and neck cancers.

As Australia’s only national charity dedicated to providing comprehensive information and support to people living with head and neck cancer they certainly have a lot on their plate. The group provides free information and support to over 5,100 people diagnosed with head and neck cancers, as well as raising awareness and advocating for prevention and patient care for over 17,000 people who are living with the side effects of Head and Neck Cancer.

We watched Head and Neck Australia’s video raising awareness about the challenges of living with the long-term impacts of head and neck cancer. The bravery and courage of these people blew us away – even those who are part of the Vic Head and Neck support group. If you haven’t seen it, you can watch it here.

Nadia and her team have been working hard on two great initiatives which will be released in 2023. The first is a GP and Dentist Education Module that will raise awareness of head and neck cancer to improve early diagnosis and optimal referral to head and neck cancer multi-disciplinary teams. The second is a new support and information tool for people who are newly diagnosed with head and neck cancers.

The support Head and Neck Cancer Australia provides is amazing. You can help support them by making a donation to their end of year appeal here.

The Vic Head and Neck Cancer group members reflected on the year and discussed the plans everyone has for the upcoming holidays. It was nice to be joined by new members from regional Victoria this month, as well as having past members return following the completion of their recent treatment.

Thank you to all our members who joined online and in person this year. Thank you too to Peter Mac Well Being Centre team and all of the wonderful guest speakers. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2023. Our first meeting will be held February where we will be joined by Peter Mac physiotherapist Megan.
