Due to the state government lockdown the group members met over Zoom this month. While it is always better to meet in person at PeterMac’s Wellbeing Centre, it was still lovely to see familiar faces and connect with each other online. It was also great to welcome two new members to the group in this meeting. Our guest speaker, Sophie, from Cancer Council joined all the way from Port Douglas – technically making the group national at least for an hour!

Sophie shared an overview of Cancer Council, including the research, prevention and support services they provide. As Australia’s leading cancer charity, and the only Australian charity working across every aspect of every cancer, Cancer Council are an amazing organisation supporting those affected by cancer. For more information about Cancer Council visit their website here.

The group then met privately to introduce ourselves and share our experiences. Joining the group for the first time was Hayley. Hayley’s story begins like many head and neck cancer patients’ do, with a drawn-out diagnosis over several months, and highlights the importance of increasing community awareness of head and neck cancers. You can read Hayley’s story on here.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 5th August where we are delighted to be joined by Kirsty from Peter Mac Nutrition and Speech Pathology Department. Please email us or register your interest to join an online session!
